Model Cover Face-Off

Rather than choosing between three of the hottest working models for the Spring issue of i-D, the magazine instead simply opted for three different covers.

(In other words, Sasha Pivovarova, Natalia Vodianova, and Freja Beha Erichson ALL got paid! ...Good for them. I hate to see a model go hungry.)

Each cover was fashioned with it's own distinct vibe, distinct model, and distinct styling.

The results are quite... distinct. *wink*

I'll just come out and say it right now: Sasha's is my favorite (and not just because she's rocking McQueen.)

The water-logged styling is very appropriate for the rain-soaked season, and the blue tint of the cover works beautifully with her eyes. It's aquatic, its totally fashion, and it's just an all-around home-run.

Natalia's, on the other hand, is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. Her teased hair is a bit fun, in that "just rolled out of the forest bed" kinda way, but I can't help feeling that they could have done more with her beautiful face.

Compared to the other two, it really just looks like they brought her in, styled her up, and shot her before lunchtime. (Plus, it kinda looks like it pains her to be winking.)

If you covered up the right side of the shot, she looks like she has a bad stomach ache... And digestive problems are not chic.

The cover featuring Freja is doing a bit more for me.

Yeah, she does look pretty pissed to be having her picture taken, but its Freja: when does she not?

It's strong and punkish without being offensive to the eyes, and that gorgeous face carries the somewhat-uninspired styling over and away from the "boring" side of the fence.

(Not entirely sure what it has to do with spring fashion, but ehh.)

So, the results of the i-D model race:

Sasha leads the pack with her April showers,

Freja comes in a distant second with her devil-May-care attitude,

and Natalia trails slightly with her... gastrointestinal issues.

( ...Sorry, couldn't think of a good pun for June.)
